Nifty Thrifty

8 Feb

We’re excited about the changes in our thrift operation!

A new store is opening this week at the intersection of George Washington Highway and Victory Boulevard in Chesapeake. It has nearly unlimited parking and is much larger than the Canal Drive store; you shoppers know how difficult it has been to find a parking spot lately!

The Canal Drive store will close by the end of the month. The outlet and warehouse next to it have closed, and “The Barn” on Military Highway is now our main outlet, with lots of great deals. Robert from the outlet has teamed up with Pernell at The Barn and they will take good care of their customers!

The sign was transferred to the new store today. For the next two days we’ll be finishing up the shelving and placing all kinds of wonderful donations on the shelves. We had planned to open on Thursday but there’s a rumor of snow so it may have to wait ’til Friday.

If you’re on Facebook, become a fan – search “Victory Home Thrift Store” – we give away Buyer Bucks, post information and share pictures. And don’t forget that you can get all kinds of info about Victory Home on our website: www.VictoryHomeRecovery.com.

Playing Catch-Up

2 Feb

We haven’t been blogging, but we HAVE been busy!

In the next few weeks we’ll play catch-up and fill you in on all kinds of exciting things that God is doing. We’ll touch on the new ladies’ program, the changes with our thrift operation, the improvements in the men’s program, the answers to prayer and the day-to-day adventures that make life so interesting here at Victory Home!

So stay tuned and buckle your seatbelts. The ride is about to begin!

I’ve been negligent, and I apologize! Here are two posts that I was supposed to publish a while ago from Pamela Robillard.

GOD DOES INDEED ANSWER PRAYER!

Victory Home is involved in a cell phone recycling program which helps support our ministry; every little bit helps. Things have been very slow in that area so three days ago I prayed God would double up what was in the collection box in the office. The next day the guys brought in ten which was two more than double. Thank You, Father! God is good all the time.

God is in Control

24 Jun

I have the privilege of talking to folks on the phone about Victory Home.

Recently, a lady called about her incarcerated son.  Although he had been in the church and a Sunday School teacher, he got messed up with drugs.

I spoke with the lady on about three occasions and during one conversation she mentioned she was a widow (on a fixed income) but she had taken in a young black boy — the son of the drug dealer that sold drugs to her son

The drug dealer had up and left the state and the boy had nowhere to stay.  The boy thrived in her care — he was successful in sports and academics — and out of his thankfulness for her selflessness, he vowed to always take care of her.

I hung up the phone —- and cried.

Weekend Movies

16 Jun

The schedule for the residents at Victory Home is very tight. They rise by 6am, come out to the church and have breakfast, devotions and classes, and then head out for a full day of work. They come back  at 5pm and have another class at 5:30 before going home and having dinner. Then they have time to shower, study, do laundry, and anything else they need to before lights out at 11pm.

However, on the weekends there are a few changes to the schedule, and they are allowed to watch a movie or two. Unfortunately, our library at this time is small, so there’s not much selection to choose from.
